You do need to be careful about buying a second hand roofbox. There are a few threads on this forum about roof boxes opening while on the motorway, hinges breaking etc once the get to be a few years old. Use the search for the threads.

I went down to our local tip, they've got a little shop on site. Pulled up and there was a Halfords roofbox sitting there. Paid 20 quid for it because like you, we'll only be using it once or twice a year because there's normally only the 2 of us going away but we also go away as a 4some and so need more room.

Mine was an absolute bargain. Without going to look, I don't know what capacity it is but I remember going to Halfords straight after and the same sized one was over £150!!! Ours had all the fixings inside plus keys for the locks. Once I'd washed it, it looked brand new.

If you've got a tip near you, check it out or look in your local paper - they don't normally expect the same sort of money as Ebay sellers.....

 I got a 320 ltr from JTF about 5 wks ago for about £60.00..

   good enough box for a few camping trips a year....

,...if you do have any worries about a seconed hand box lock springing open, you could always put a lugage strap around the box...
