The reviews of rechargeable 4xAA battery ones are a bit naff. They take too long to charge, don't get hot enough and are not effective. 4-8hrs to charge in car for 30 mins use. e.g. Morphy Richards.
I have just bought my 14 yo daughter Babyliss cordless straighteners (gas cell powered) from Argos £13.95. She says they arn't fantastic but will do the job whilst camping (we don't have ehu) and now agrees to come with us!
I use a cordless (Braun power cells) one for travelling. Agree, not nearly as good as proper ones, but reasonable results, they have a steam boost which helps, they heat up pretty quick and with cordless at least you dont have to sit in the car to use them/charge them first !
