Was going to buy one for our Vermont XL but they're huge and I'm not sure I'd find a washing machine that it would fit it.
I opted for a set of PVC backed picnic rugs instead (matching of course). The Gelert ones are good. These easily go into the washing machine and also mean that you can arrange them according to which entrance you use in the tent to limit the dirt trodden onto them.
Have to admit they make a huge difference inside the tent - the kids like to lie on the floor now when they are playing card games, etc and the rugs are nice to walk on instead of just the groundsheet.
We use the Outwell Montana 6 carpet in our Cabanon Biscaya 440 and give it a hoover before we leave site.
Never get it so dirty that it would need washing though? Maybe because we also have a 1.5m x 1m dirt stopper entrance mat as well (the rubber backed sort you find inside shop & office doorways) and shoes go no further than the mat.
If it did need washing I'd treat it as I would a house carpet and clean it the same way!
trouble is its not carpet it those travel rugs but attached together and they absorb smell in a big way!! imagine the weaty feet smell after a years camping !
We don't have that problem, but gave it a spray with fabreeze when we first got the carpet as wifey believes it helps prevent the smells in the first place.
I'll stck with the seperate picnic blanket till outwell suss out a way of seperating their in order to wash !
The picnic blankets have worked out more expensive than the outwell carpet but imo the extra is worth it for the washability! I just bung them in the wash after every trip and they are nice and fresh . Febreze is the devils spray ,I cant use it a I have kids and a dog and its pretty harmful stuff.
