Sorry I know this is probably a really stupid question, but I have just acquired an old lumogaz 206 gas lantern. I have put in a new mantle and I assume to light it I just turn on the gas, lift the globe and light the gas. Is that right?

There is also a little hammer thing which lifts into the globe when you twist the screw - sorry don't know how else to describe it - what is that for??

Thanks.

Hi There

From memory just turn on the gas and spin/flick the hammer which creates a spark and it should light the light.

Good luck

After fiitting the mantle and before replacing the globe, light the mantle and allow it to burn out. Then replace the globe, turn on the gas and operate the lighter.  Ordinary cigarette lighter flints will fit the lighter if they need to be replaced.

Be careful not to touch the mantle once it has been burnt out or it will fall to pieces.

Oh so the little hammer is the lighter...I did wonder!
Would it be dangerous to use a match if the lighter doesnt work?

Thanks.

We bought a "creme brule" gas torch from Robert Dyas for about 10 pounds - it seems expensive but it is great for lighting candles, lanterns etc.. etc.. and its safe to use - here is an example:

http://www.cookingmarvellous.com/product_info.php?products_id=103&gclid=CKLUlKDK940CFSOZEAodvQNILw

It might be an alternative for you as it gives off a good long flame and keep hands etc.. out of harm

Hope this helps

Andy
