Just returned from a week in Dorset where we had to endure some awful weather.Floods and gales for the first 4 days. Our tent did survive,by luck rather than judgement I think ,unlike an unlucky few other set ups.We were wondering if any of you more experienced campers can recommend a 4/5 birth tent that would be good in these sorts of conditions. At the moment the kids are too terrified to go in the tent again !

where were you ??

we should have been back at eweleaze farm mid august but didn't go because of the severe weather warnings. We were there for 11 nights at the beginning of the month.which was very windy but nothing like (i imagine) the gales that came later.   We had some very windy weather, also in dorset, mid july.

our khyam classic xl has sustained a slight rip by one of the pole sleeves but i think that was where the wind caught it when it was half erect. A rear bedroom pole has bowed a bit. We chose to be on the top of a hill looking out over the rolling hills and the sea so i have no complaints about the stability of the tent or the annexe.  We left the screen canopy up during some pretty firece wind and that survived too.

i am not surprised the children were scared. In the middle of the night i was pleased that i hadn't got the grandchildren with me. I hope they had some good days to make up for it.

Thankfully, the last 3 days were beautiful I'm glad we decided to stay.We were at Charmouth.I didn't realise there had been weather warnings till it was too late!I think we're going to have to do a fair ammount of work to convince the kids to go in the tent again, which is really sad because we've had some fantastic times in it.

Have a look at the Kyham range of tent, i have just got back from Devon, talk about wind and rain never seen rain and wind like it.

Tent did it job, was glad i had the XXL classic.  Several tent were blown apart and people just put there tents into the skip, was very sad to see.  1 week of horrendous weather has put people off camping for life...  horses mouth
