We have a Hobby with a built in Electrolux 3-way fridge. Was working o.k (only ever had it on mains) Then we left fridge on site (seasonal tourer) on the sunday during a power cut, when we returned the following weekend the fridge wasn't working! Tested the power there is electric going to it but it just seems dead.

Phoned local repair guy, who said £400.00 for new fridge or aprox £200.00 for call out and repair IF it's the element (thats what it sounds like to him!)

Anyone else had problems with electrolux fridges??

Some say turn it upside down for an hour then turn it back over and wait an hour then plug it in and see if that does it.. Something to do with the liquid gas inside settling in again or something to that effect. Have you also got the switch over right from gas to electric etc? just a thought...

It will have to come out if you spend £400 on a new one or £200 to repair it. It's well worth taking it out and turning upside down if it means you repair it for free. Either way it has to come out, but I'd go for the free repair over the other two options. What's more, there's a 99% chance turning it upside down will fix it. I know loads of people who have done this and fixed it. Never known it fail.

Before stripping it out, it would be worth trying on gas, but my money is on it not working on gas, mains or 12 volts.

dont bother turning it upside down if it works on any other source as this will indicate that the pipes are clear. if this is the case then its almost certain it is the element if you take the van in for repair it should cost a lot less

Brother in-law is an electrical engineer and checked it with some sort of metre. Says he will fit new element for us if we buy one. Fingers crossed problem solved, i'll let u know.

You should be able to access the element via the outside fridge vents .
Don't forget the thermostat as a possible cause , the mains switch on the fridge front panel , unless you have actually checked the element on the back of the fridge . There is also sometimes a fused switch in a low cupboard near the fridge .
