Can you let meknow what sort of tow hitch it is as I want to put my bike rack onto the hitch but all of the ones I have seen are the swan nexk type so you can't.

Help appreciated.

Will only be towing a tralier for camping but with the bikes as well it would as you say be over the 50kgs.  Looks like a strap on bike rack for the back of the car.

What is the meriva like towing?

Fine, I've had no trouble. We have a Raclet Flores TT at the moment and took that to Slapton in Devon with no problem. We are about to change it for a pennine pullman so I am going to have to be careful with the noseweight but I don't envisage any other problems. If you only have a small trailer then visibility around and over it is not an issue. The only 'complaint' I have about the towbar is that the electrical socket, which swings up behind the bumper is a tad awkward to plug into.

The bonus of the detachable towbar, which is completely hidden when it's removed, is the look on the dealers face when you go to pick your new trailer up, produce a length of rope and say 'where do you recommend tying this to?' It really is impossible to tell the Meriva has a towball unless you get on your hands and knees and look underneath.
