Hi, we have Coleman Comfort double air beds, but find them uncomfortable and too short. We were thinking of changing to double height airbeds. Does anyone have any recommendations, or can recommend any alternative so we can get good nights sleep without feeling beaten up in the morning?
We love camping, but the bad nights sleep are spoiling it as we always feel so shattered.
I personally love our Fat Airics (from Alpkit) - find them comfy and warm, and love the fact that we just unroll them, open the valve and stick them in the bedroom pod. Not everyone's cup of tea perhaps but I think they're great.
We got a double airbed last year in the hope that it would make drinking the cup of tea easier with legs dangling over the edge and also amke it easier for my mum to get up. It was huge - seemed much bigger than I expected and we ended up rolling together quite a bit - not ideal when it was hot. Also it was very bumpy and made us feel a bit sea sick.
We now have fat airics - very comfy from the test sleep I did and very very long!

we got a bestaway bed[as seen on price drop tv etc]at a bargain price,in fact we bought 2 ! built in pump or conventional inflation.a bit big but comfy-it takes up half of the alaska 8 sleeping area.
We use Intex Queen airbeds from cybercheckout. Bought a second one as son was always getting into ours.. They are £20 at the moment plus delivery a good price considering they are two airbeds zipped together. They are 152 cm wide and 203cm long. So you need to make sure they will fit in your bed pod. I never really got a good nights sleep until I got these, no roll together and me and hubby are of unequal weight ahem .. don't ask who is the chubby one.
Hi, We've had loads of problems with beds, but we now seem to have got it sorted.
The kids have the fold up metal/canvas ones you can get from argos or camping shops for about £20, plus they have one of those self inflating foam type mattresses on top just for extra comfort and insulation really. I think they are great plus you can store stuff underneath.
We have always had double airbeds but the 'roll together' gets a bit annoying! the best one we had was the coleman one that has two separate air chambers but it didn't last very long and it a bit pricey to have to keep replacing every 2-3 trips. Last year we found some double hight single airbeds in Asda by Intex and we think they are great! They were about £16 each but you can tell they are made from thick quality material and have lasted better than any others we have had... and are really comfy! My O.H. prefers it to our bed at home! I would recommend to anyone. Only down side... my mum really likes them too so she's keen to come camping with us more often, but it means I have to give her mine, and I end up on the floor!
Me and the missus have these. Very comfortable and none of the bouncing about when one of us moves in the night. The missus has a self inflating mattress on hers for that extra bit if comfort.
I have been thinking about getting camp beds to replace our self inflating mat, but budget is tight. Does anyone have any experience of these type. I wondered how safe the legs are. We had some when i was young that seemed similar to this and if you sat up in the wrong position the bed folded on you.
I tried one of these before I bought the camp beds. I found them to be rather flimsy, but I am 15st. You can get the camp beds I bought for less than £25 in some sales.
i agree with mphigham aluminium folding camp beds are the business,we have had them 2 seasons now and would not look back no more flat airbeds, plus you can store stuff underneath them.
Have got both types of metal framed beds mentioned on here. We have the "luxury" folding aluminium ones, and the boys have the others.
The cheaper ones are OK, but really only for lighter weights, and they are closer to the ground. Good if you are lighter & on a budget!!! They also take up very little room, and once you get the hang of putting them together, they don't take very long. We use them when we visit MIL's for the boys to sleep on. They can "flick up" if you sit on the end, so watch for that.
We have the aluminium ones, and they are good. If you can afford to go for the widest ones that are about £35.00, then do. We have the ones that are £20 by Sunncamp(Towsure a couple of summers ago). You do need to use them a few times before they are easy to get the end pieces on. They also don't take up tons of room once folded up. Also, you can sit on them whilst you are getting dressed. You can only use them if you have sufficient head height, as ours only just go in our big dome tent, and we can't use them in the Quechua seconds tents. As already mentioned, great for putting bags under out of the way. They are quick to erect, and less noisy than an air pump!
we have one of those aerobeds not the active, one of those mains jobbies, its as comfortable as a real bed queen size and double height you need a 4berth pod to fit it comfortably but it is very comfy they are pricy but much better than intex, bestway or colmans all of which I have tried.
fat airics are great - the first time we camped on holiday we had a double air bed and I had to point out to my husband that there was no way I was going away for a week sharing one, but the 2 single fat airics have been great - pop a sheet across them both and we both sleep well.
