Got to get a new sleeping bag for my daughter as she flatly refuse to sleep in the mummy type last year. She is also not keen on the hood. She is 8 now so wondering whether to just buy another adult bag as more versatile. Need something machine washable and warm. Argos have some checked ones that they say are 300gms but not sure if they can go in the machine or if they would be warm enough. They have a deal at 2 for £20 at the moment. Any better suggestions.. We only go in Sprng/summer so not when really cold
I wouldn't machine wash a sleeping bag even if it says you can. I did that many years ago when the sprog was little and it made the wadding all bunch together leaving cold unstuffed patches. I found it much better to use a sleeping bag liner that can much easier be washed with no ill effects and it's a lot less hassle, they are available from most outdoors type shops.
Go outdoors do a gelert hebog 250 sleeping bag which doesnt have a hood. It is currently only £7.50 available in navy.

Really torn here as I would say buy the best sleeping bag (within reason) that you can afford to the spec that you want. I would only ever buy from a recognised manufacturer and indeed I have 5 Vango sleeping bags. I have 3 Astal 350 large and 2 Nitestar xl bags. They are all envelope styles and very roomy. I also as Debied says, use liners as these are easier to wash than the bag itself and can add additional warmth to the sleeping bag.

I have an Argos 300gsm which I keep for "winter" use, and I have never been cold in it. I bought one of the 400gsm from them first, but having tried lying in it for a few seconds on the living room floor, took it back and changed it for the lower spec as the 400 was way too bulky and hot!
anyone found a bag that will fit back into its bag once youve got it out? :-(
we've got a lovely thick padded bag, but once it was out, WHOOSH, it was 4 times the size. now its just too bulky to pack with us as theres no way itll fit back in the bag :-(

Kleeneze (think Wilkinsons do too- less ££) sell bags that you use a hoover on to suck out the air and can pack things up quite small. Although same prob when you get it out, so if you needed to repack it into a small bag, you'd have to by a small 9v vac to suck the air out for your return journey home.
I squeeze and roll mine at the same time, then put a couple of thick elastic bands around the top to stop it unrolling, that seems to work pretty well.
