Thanks for the info scrufts, it's something I've been wanting to check out for a while. Have you got any advice on which makes/suppliers of the dongle's are ok?
I bought an Asus Eee last year, just to have a small robust machine for work if I didn't want/need to lug a bigger laptop. Haven't used it myself yet, but the kids love it! Even though it's nothing compared to their hi tech gamey gadgets. It is very robust, so thinking of taking it camping this year, so the dongle tip's a good'n - ta!
Have a look under ebay and search for "3g usb modem". You'll find a few unlocked ones for sale. Make sure it is "hsdpa" compatible.(means you'll get the faster speeds) If you can work ebay, have a look at this item:
Item number: 140203607931
i'm not on commission or anything like that, but it is identical to the one I bought - so it may be of use to you as this is the type I would go for.
Cheers scrufts, found it. Just need to find out if these gadgets run on Linux OS for the Asus. Whilst trying to find out on google, found this review of yours (looks like you got a good'n):

A good product without a doubt but this topic is about "Broadband in a Caravan".
Now most caravans are only going to be used for a limited time each year yet the Vodaphone USB stick is going to cost you around £30 a month on a fixed contract, or £360 a year compared to the Datawind that is FREE for the first year and £40 a year thereafter.
I for one would not want to be paying out £30 a month for something that I did not require 4, 5 or 6 months of the year and then only sporadically thereafter.
The Datawind has its limitations and it could never compete with a laptop, but with the difference in running costs of £320 each year, well that would buy me a lot of very nice pitches in some quite luxurious campsites <G>.
Lobey - read my original post again. YES you can get a vodafone/tmobile/orange usb modem and be tied into them with a contract and pay up to £30 a month (vodafone is the most expensive) BUT if you buy anUNLOCKED dongle which was what I have suggested, you are not tied into a contract, have the ability to change networks and using a PAYG card pay as little as £5 for 1 months internet access. gonig away for the weekend?- then you could go for £1 a day access which is far better than £1 for 15 mins that some sites charge. You can get a weeks access for £2.50. IMHO it is excellent value doing it this way.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
