We use Tyvek labels at work so I know the stuff. I have ssen it used in lining roofs before the slates go on so you may get some from a builders merchant.

I can find it on 50' rolls but no one who will sell cut off legnths. It does look an interesting and useful material though.
Scratcher... what sizes do those envelopes go up to? They might make excellent lightweight waterproof bags for documents etc. I notice they make wallets of the stuff.
Mmmm, sounds ideal for a backpacking groundsheet. I'll be following the replies on this thread in the hope that someone knows where you can get small quantities of Tyvek sheeting

i use tyvek roofing felt at work and it is NOT completly water proof ie it will let in water as it is a breathable membraine and also when it gets scuffed it becomes pourus how ever if it is to be used as an under sheet it should be fine hope this helps
and at over £100 a roll i think you will be hard pushed finding some one who will sell you a few feet you could try looking around the local building sites and ask the roofers nicely to sell you a few feet as most jobs have some left over
