Hi there,

Can anyone give some advice on electrical power for our Dandy FC. We have been told that electric hook-ups on French campsites may not be adequate to run a laptop from due to amp rating.

Does anyone have any experience of running a laptop in such a situation and what we might need to do / recommendation of separate power source?

Thank you!

A laptop uses very little power, only 1 to 2 amps, so you do not need to worry.

I don't know what a Dandy FC is, but I take my old IBM ThinkPad T23 with me. Once you have fitted your cable drum to the French hook-up then you can just plug in your laptop to the cable drum. The voltage is standard all over the EU, 220VAC 50Hz. So your laptop would work ok. The power supply unit for that came with your laptop would only take something like 120Watts maximum.

Well I use mine all the time when I am in France! Its unusual to have a supply lower than 6 amps which seems to be about the average. A laptop takes a very, very small amount of power.

Jennfernn

Also thank you for the info ... it's a comfort to know all will be ok!

Big Mike,

I will relay your message to my husband. I am so not technically minded!

A Dandy Folding Camper is our lovely new mode of living. I will post some pictures next week on my profile once the new curtains/covers have been finished - got to look her best!

thanks everyone.
