I bought one yesterday and cooked my breakfast on it in the garden this morning using Aspen 4 T fuel ("We've only got a few bottles left, the campers have had it all"). What a fantastic cooker, and what a fantastic fuel ! One question though, what does the lighting lever actually do ?
Hi Martin I'm not a 100% sure but I thing it acts a bit like a choke ( remember those? ) on a carburettor. I think it supplies a bit of excess fuel until the vapour tube reaches working temprature.
I agree with you though, they are fantastic cookers, in fact I think they are the best!

Due to the high output, the generator tube is quite thick on a 424 (as opposed to the thin one on the 533 sportster)
This means that a high volume of liquid fuel can come through before the temp. is high enough to vapourise the liquid. The lever is in fact a reverse choke - it limits the volume of fuel at lighting, so that the yellow flame is minimised. After a few minutes, you can open it up, and let loose the full power of the 424!!!
That sounds like it makes sense, next time I light mine I will watch it very carefully and see exactly what happens.
