Turby towels are really good, my 9 year old daughter has very long, thick hair and one of these stays put rather than falling off her head and does soak up a lot of water.  Also good are Lakeland's microfibre towels, they're a lot thinner and lighter than normal towels.

Thanks guys.  This is fantastic stuff - I will be off to all the local pound shops looking for turby towels.  Also lakeland.

I am so looking forward to watching the creative packing that goes on when I present the girls with their regulation size bags and tell them "that much and no more". 

Trouble is, I know they will outwit me somehow and sneak in loads of extra stuff.  The idea of minimilism is totally alien to them.  And I think I need to get some practice in myself!

By the way, what do people do about pillows - are they an unnecessary luxury?  I saw some new ones in ASDA rolled up pretty small in their packaging.  But, of course once you used them, they would be back to normal size. 

Inflatable camping pillows were not well regarded when I bought one a few years ago.  It mysteriously disappeared after the first trip.  Should I persist or just roll up some jumpers?
