I've been looking at the coolboxes that stay cold for 5 days, I like the idea of not having the hastle of freezing ice blocks.  The smallest one I have seen is 25L but for 1 person I feel this may be a bit big.

Does anyone know if you get this type of coolbox in a smaller size?

Thanks. Lou

I would say that, depending on what you generally like to keep cool, a 25 litre box for one person is not too much. Remember, you have to put in quite a bit of ice or other frozen stuff to keep the rest of the contents cool!

Im away at the end of the month for my first camping trip and will need to save up to get one of these 5 daycoolboxes.

So in the meantime I have made sure that all the sites I have booked have freezer facilities. Having never used a coolbox before are they pretty much all the same or is there something I should look out for, also whats better freezer blocks or the gel packs and how often do you need to change them?

Also just want to check how the freezer facility thing works, Im assuming you just get two sets of freezer blocks, write your name on them and then put one in the campsite freezer and swap them over when needed, is there usually a charge for this?

Thanks, Lou.x.

Hi Lou. Some sites charge 20p per block for freezing, but other sites offer this service for free. We often stay on sites where they have a freezer in an outbuilding where you can just swap your blocks at anytime of day, rather than having to swap them in the shop or the farmhouse during reasonable hours

You will need 4 freezer blocks, 2 in freezer & 2 in coolbox. If you use a large coolbox, fill an empty 2 litre pop bottle (not quite to the top) with water & freeze it along with the freezer blocks. Also freeze your milk. Add these to your coolbox at the last minute before you leave home. The frozen water will last longer than the blocks, but some campsites wouldn't let you refreeze a bottle of water, only offering a freezer block service. The frozen water can last up to 3 days before it's fully thawed, and the frozen milk will need removing from the coolbox some time before you want to use it, but this all helps to keep everything cool for longer.

Thanks, think the budget can stretch to 40p a day, cheaper than buying an expensive coolbox or EHU.

Went into Asda today to buy a coolbox but they were sold out so will need to keep my eyes open for one, not away till end of the month so have plenty of time. I did get a fold up camping table from focus today for £8.99, I think the coolbox and batteries is all I need to get now, although I am considering a party grill trying to talk myself into it, I already have a one ring burner. I cant stop buying stuff

They are selling a coolbox at Lidls on Monday - not sure if its any good.

I wouldn't pay a lot for a '5-day' coolbox - got one last year from Blacks, filled it with ice blocks, some frozen meat and some cold drinks and milk. Everyting was defrosted by the following morning. Took it back. Didn't do what it 'said on the tin'.

Still trying to find the perfect 'cool' option - which is probably a 3-way fridge, but we can't fit one in the car.
