We are very new to camping and are going away for our Second camping trip this year, So we are looking into buying cooking equipment and so on.....What it is we are wondering is....If we get a camping gas barbeque, will it serve all our needs? what I mean is,i.e...will it boil a kettle,could we make toast,put pans on ect....I don't see why it would'nt work but I can't see anything that says people do this and it just seems to be such a simple idea.
for our first few trips, all we had was a small gas BBQ and a single burner for boiling the kettle, frying eggs etc. i cant see why the theory of only using a gas BBQ wouldn't work as at is only a gas burner after all. However, if you put a kettle and/or frying pan on the BBQ it wont leave a lot of room for cooking the rest of your meal.

I'd have to say forget innovation and go for something like the Campingaz Camping Chef Stove. You can get one with a carry bag & regulator for no more than forty quid if you shop around. If you went with the idea of doing all your cooking on a simple BBQ I fear you're going to be eating luke warm food or waiting for a long while for your cuppa afterwards as there simply wont be enough room to fit everything on. More important is the economic aspect, a purpose made cooker directs the heat exactly where you want it where a gas BBQ is going to be wasting a great deal of heat around the periphery of kettle or toast.

Very interesting. We've been using a Tilley stove (two burner and grill) for 18 years which is still great. But I keep trying to find an excuse to replace it with something else. The camping gaz chef could be the thing. But, how well does it toast?
This could link to the thread about not being able to pass a camping shop - we are part of evolution and therefore seeking to improve on what we have that works well enough.
Went to Towsure this morning 'just for a look' and came back with two new chairs and a pair of trousers. When, when, when will I learn?
we've bought a 2 burner stove with grill and a cadac because there are 4 of us and each has a use. we haven't been camping yet though, but in a few weeks I'll be able to tell you if it works for us or we've wasted our money!
