When we first started camping a few years ago we bought a single hob stove which runs on butane gas canisters that we want to update. So we are thinking of Camping Gaz Double burner and grill. I have not used calor gaz before so wanted to know how much the canisters are and how long they last. Can anyone help?

Looking forward to first trip out next weekend to Blackberry wood, shame it is not this weekend the sun is shining!

To put this in perspective my OH parents live on a boat, 1 x 6.5 Kg bottle lasts them about half a year depending on what they cook, but that is using an oven and hobs.

Hi ,  the refillable gas cylinders are cheap to run, but a new one is expensive to start with, BUT,

You don't need to buy a brand new gas bottle. New bottles are very expensive.  You can try to get a gas bottle from your local tip/recycling centre, If they say they're not supposed to part with them,  bung the attendant a fiver. works every time.

Or car bootsale/ local paper/ ebay/ freeads/ freecycle. They  get exchanged at the shop when you buy a refill, so no matter if its a bit scruffy looking, as soon as its empty, it is exchanged for a different one anyway. A refill is probably about £20now I would think? the last one I bought was £15 about 2 years ago or so. but this will last you all season.

Thought I would add, I don't think you need to get the camping  gaz brand cylinder either. As long as you have the right size regulator to fit

.both types of gas can be used on any stove.

The camping gaz ones are more expensive for refills than the calor gas ones of similar size.

I'm not positive that I have this the right way round, someone correct me if I'm wrong.
