I was just wondering whether you are allowed to cook on portable camping stoves (gas or meths) in public places like parks or if there are any laws etc against this. Thank
i don't know the law but if we go out on our bikes i tow a trailer with picnic and small gas stove which we use anywhere we want, guess we may come across a jobsworth sometime but until then its a fresh cup of tea for us.

------------- they said it couldnt be done so i left it and went camping
a bad days camping is better than a good day at work
Depends where you go I suppose. My Mum used to be a Girl Guide leader when I was a kid and I can remember something about the Guides getting told off for cooking food over a small fire in a public place as it was a fire hazard, that would have been late 70's or early 80's.
Having said that, also when I was a kid we used to go to Tenby in South Wales for our holidays for several years, I can remember my Dad cooking sausages on the beach on a camping gaz stove which we still have today (the stove I mean not the sausages), nobody bothered but I think it got a few peoples mouths watering who where nearby.
Light stove, cook food, enjoy food, pack away and go home
21st Century:
Provide local council with risk assessment study, obtain licence for said cooking and provide health and safety certificate for food hygiene, dispose of waste in appropriate recycling bins, isolate picnic area for inspection by environmental health officers to inspect, obtain certificate of compliance and leave area
Never had a problem with my suitcase stove and boy it sure does get around. Did once get a Car Park attendant wandering over to see what we were up to, just offered him a hot-dog and a brew and he was fine. So carry an extra cup and plate and you should not have a problem.
We do this all the time - never had a problem, people are more interested in what you are cooking than if you are breaking the law including parking attendants. The new forest is great as is Cannock Chase.
