Hi all , we already have a 12v coolbox which has served us well but it is now due for replacement and with us looking to travel down to Spain next year I am wondering which is the best to go for.

We have had a bit of a look today and can't decide. We saw a 36ltr 12v cooler that can be stood as a fridge that I quite like for £69.99 , we also looked at the 3 way ones but the cheapest we saw was £129.99 for a 40ltr , but we also saw a small (beer?) fridge , the type with the glass door that was 60ltr and only £59.99.

With all of the experience on here I wonder what your opinions are , would the 12v cool enough if it were very hot in spain?? Is the 3 way one worth spending double on??? Finally would one of those small beer fridges be o.k to use on a site hook-up or would it blow the fuses???

Working on a tight budget so don't want to make the wrong decision.

Thanks guys.

I have used both a 3 way and a beer/wine fridge, and both have plus and minus'. The 3 way is easier to transport and lighter and obviously doesn't need hook up.

The beer fridge is easier to store thing and find things and i use it out the shed all year to keep drinks in. The beer fridge i believe must be handled with care and left to rest after being moved about due to the gas. But certainly no problem with it being used with EHU

Personally wouldn't bother with the 12v as I never find them cool enough.

we have just gone from cool boxs to 3 way and I can't believe how good it is. started it up on site (using gas we had no ehu) turned it up on full (to make sure it got cold) went shopping came back turned it down to about half and put the shopping in, thought no more of till next morning went to make breakfast and found frozen food! we got ours 2nd with our trailer tent. if your going to spain I would go with 3 way wish we had years ago

This may be a really stupid question but here goes; Is it OK/safe to use a 3 way (running on Gas) inside the tent? I'm thinking from a ventilation and safety point of view with fumes and fire risk etc... And can they run on all gas types (propane/butane and mix)?

have you thought about getting a normal big cool box, igloo or coleman ect.we had an electric 38ltr last year that blew up on us on our final trip in september.we were lucky that it was within the 12 month guarantee so we got a refund.this year weve got ourselves an igloo marine ice cube 48ltr cool box with a smaller 10ltr inside it free for £35 from costco.weve used it 3 times this year and theres now way we`d go back to electric.you can fit a load of food and drinks in it with some ice packs and a load of ice and it keeps cool and fresh for at least 3 days before you have to replenish the packs and ice.hope this helps
