Hi just wondering if anyone can help with our problem.  Just come back from a long weekend away down in stratford opon avon.  Had a lovely time apart from our fridge decided to stop working on gas, and being in a field watching autograss cars with no hook up was quite a problem!  Luckly we took our little generator so we could leave that running up to 10 o clock and keep the fridge cold on 240v, and having good neighbours to keep essentals cool at night.  The fridge lights on gas first time and pilot light stays on.  Thought I would try here first to see if anyone has had simialar prob, or knows what it might be before taking it somewhere to get charged a fortune for a well known fault.  Fridge is most important peice of eqiupment having 3 small boys one of which is only 6 months old, and price of petrol to high to run off generator.

Cheers Mike

p.s Fridge is electroluc and has elictric igniter, dont know model as van back at storage but will find out tommorow if that helps.

Absolute level ground is one thing, so try it at home.  If that fails try turning the fridge upside down for a while; sounds daft but apparently it works.

Make sure your cooker will light and that hot water runs on gas as well - run these two first before you light the fridge to clear any air locks.

I have this problem too. The pilot light is on but the butter stays warm. Although the actual cooling unit is coolish.
Three useful suggestions I have found. One is that there is an airlock in the coolant pipes this is traditionally curred by turning fridge upside down but not much use when fridge is built in (or are they easy to remove? .. I ask myself) Apparently driving over a v bumpy road can also cure this. Next is to clean the cooling outlet. Third is to clean the gas outlet by the pilot light. Fourth is to change from blu-bottle gas to red-bottle which burns hotter. (Propane to butane or the other way round I forget!) Nick

Join the club.......

Mine stopped cooling over the bank holiday. It wasn't level and I've since learnt the importance of that. It lights and runs but won't cool.

It's been upside down and jiggled all around, but no change.

Thanks for all the replies.  We were level, even had spirit level in fridge.  Cooker, hob and water heater all worked fine, just fridge playing up!  I changed from butane to propane after problems with butane on easter weekend (freezing), but we have used caravan 3 times since change over with no problems.  Even tried new bootle of propane just incase there was a problem with the other.  Will bring van home and try it again over night, if that doesnt work i will look into the other suggestions.

Cheers Mike
