Hi Folks,

Following on from a previous thread, I phoned our local Garden Centre in Bridport and asked if they stocked Heat Beads. Yes sir, £6.49 for a 4kg. bag.

You can well imagine what I told him to do with them, one by one.

Regards

Tassie

I got mine from B&Q. but forget how much i paid for them. the woolies price seems good.

I have just been packing one of my bags up into small ziplock bags.  Have put 11 beads in each bag and added a few fire lighter cubes that way if decide to go away for weekend will only need to pack 3 small ready to go bags.

Make sure your heat beads are in an air tight bag or container as they can absorb moisture from the air and be difficult to light. Consider buying a charcoal chimney for faster lighting. The one from Homebase will fit on the Cobb fire basket with a slight modification to the handle.

Not that I've noticed. It's just that they're so much better than anything else heat wise. They beat the rest hands down. We would never go back to normal charcoal now.

I agree there does not seem to be any difference, after all i think they are made from compressed charcoal. Because of the rising fuel prices (gas, electricity and oil) we are using the Cobb more frequently at home. On Sunday I cooked a 1.4Kg chicken on the roast rack with the moat full of potatoes and parsnips. I used just 7 brickettes.Time cooking was 2hrs for the chook and because the potatoes were new 2hrs 15 mins. Total cost was 42p. The brickettes were still very hot so i doused them in water and will use them at a later date.
