Hello
Does anyone know where I can get a decent bucket with a lid for night time emergencies. I'm looking for a dark coloured one as I obviously will need to stroll through the camp site to empty it and unfortunately my sweet little girl really doesn't get the 'wee only' rule!

hey, quite like that one looks alittle bit more stable.

Have noticed alot of comments about cat litter and a bin liner, have I missed something here? Surely it's easier to throw the whole lot down the loo? Does the cat litter hide the smell better?

Where else could you have a conversation like this!!!!

Not only does the cat litter hide the smell but it absorbs everything so you don't have anything messy to chuck away. If you line the bucket with a bag, you haven't got to faff around rinsing and cleaning out the bucket. I swear by this method and use the wood based cat litter pellets which release I lovely pine scent as you pee

In the morning, you drop the bag in the bin

Mmmmm....sadly with my little girl peeing isn't the problem. Don't think the bin man would thank me for that!

I have a luggable loo - a tall bucket with really comfortable seat and lid, carrying handle. I just use it as it is, and empty each morning, quick spray with zoflora+water to freshen. It's only like emptying a potty!

Bucket with lid is a good idea, and I've seen those little toilet/potty seats in a cheapie shop which would go on top for comfort.

another place you could look is in a car accessory store - they do good strong carwashing buckets with lids - usually come with gift set of shampoo, etc, but you will use those in time.

Madeleine, is this cat litter stuff heavy? I've always used my luggable loo just on it's own, quick rinse and spray every morning. However, on a small CS with no loos, had to use it for no 2's which wasn't pleasent to empty. The reason I ask is that I can't carry heavy weights as disabled - and even 1/4 of a bucket full is heavy! Thanks!

Nope - I use a few handfuls of the compressed wood pellets and it's fine.

As for disposing of it when little one has done number 2s (how twee ), put it in the same place as people put disposable nappies whether that's the general bins or the toilet bins. It's no different.

I was lucky enough to find a bucket with a toilet seat and lid on it at a car boot sale. OH was appalled but it's not like I didn't give it a hugely efficient clean before we ever used it and he does deign to use public toilets....

Oh and what I also do is have bags ready with pellets in when I pack. If I'm going for 3 nights, I put handfuls of pellets in 3 separate bags, 7 nights - 7 bags, etc. Then you haven't got to worry about the weight issue of one big bag of pellets. Not that all the bags get used. 3 handfuls in each is enough BTW.
