This morning i had some SPACE BAGS delivered. The idea being that bedding etc and clothes can be put inside and the air taken out to make more room in my Roof Box.
The problem is i can use our home cleaner to suck the air out before we leave but is there a portable 12v small cleaner that i can use to do this before we return home??? The Nossle needs to be the same size as a normal Vacuum Cleaner. Any Ideas?? Andy Lincolnshire.
When I had these bags I used to use a Black & Decker 12v Vacuum as it it comes with all the attachments etc !!! But sorry to burst your bubble but I have found that these vacuum bags don't last very long at all !!! sorry !!
ive got to agree with steve. they dont last long. i did 2 trips with my bags by the time i got home they had burst. and i got expensive 10 year ones. they went back and i got a refund. although while they do work they are ideal. also got to be careful what you pack next to them in the car. we use our air bedpump when we come home. takes forever though
Hi Andy, I could not open your link but i had mine from Matalan I think, I think this is a general thing, great while they work, but they don't last long !!! Sorry
Am I the only person that thinks it amusing that after having bought vacumn bags to save packing space, one then has to take an extra piece of quite bulky equipment to make them work?
I'll tell you the cheats way...get strong bin bags, place item within then roll the whole lot up, holding the neck of the bag almost shut. Tie a knot in it when you can't compress it further. Not quite as tidy or compressed as a vacumn bag but it does reduce the volume of most things quite a bit.
From what people are saying is they are using small bed air inflaters. I need one of these for our 2 airbeds and if they can do Space Bags as well...Fantastic. I want to make sure i buy the correct one through advice of folk on here. If all else fails..Bin bags it is.
...which, although I can't find on the BCH Camping web site this morning, they do for about £24 I think.
The reason we went for a rechargeable was because when it's hammering down with rain and/or you don't have EHU trying to in/deflate plugged into you car cigarettte lighter socket is a pain.
The challenge was to find an adapter that would cover the ~3cm vent opening on the vacuum bag and provide a good seal on the ~1cm nozzle on the pump. Answer... big drum roll... a foam disk from the children's disk-firing gun thingy!! Parents who have been bombarded by these multi-coloured foam rubber disks (or have found them anywhere from down the sofa to inside light fittings after the kids have finished firing them around) will know what I mean. Alternatively cut a suitable size disk from a piece of flat foam rubber and make a hole in it to take the pump nozzle.
We have found that the airbed pump will evacuate the bag at least as fast as the home vacuum. Not sure why 'oldham' doesn't recommend putting sleeping bags in them though... our bulky (very toasty warm!) sleeping bags sparked the idea of getting the vacuum bags and they shrink down nicely.
Just posted a comment on these bags.... not overly impressed with the roll ones.
Thanks for the tip Val... bin bags it is .. bigger and a knot would be alot easier than trying to close the bags while sliding the plastic thing over it to secure. (Need more than 2 hands for this lol)
Sleeping bags work by trapping the air In between the fibres when you use these bags the air pockets are removed and shaking them will not put them back and yes learned by experience.
Thanks for the tip regarding sleeping bags. In my case the bags are for clothes and pillows etc. But this is very good to know as my sleeping bags cost a fortune. Tigang thanks for the link. At the bottom of the page they had an adaptor. I wonder if that would work? Thanks everyone so far for your replies. Andy.
