i want to use some of these this year to pack our clothes in.
Can anyone suggest where to get the best ones from, and also for the journey home are you able to use an electric pump on deflate as opposed to a vaccum?
got my last ones from b&q with 10 year guarantee. but i dont think much about them. everyone i have had hasnt lasted more than one or two camping trips. they easily get damaged packed in the car. ive had different sorts. they do some in argos. you can also get the ones you can roll up to get air out. but they are hard work.
on the trip home i use the air bed electric deflater but it takes ages. i start by not closing zip fully and gently squeezing air out, then i finish off using deflator.
they are really usefull when they work. but my experience of them isnt good.
I've given up on vac-pacs! I've tried lots of different sorts at various prices and all of them have failed after 1 or 2 uses. I think they are fine for home use as you fill them once and then they are packed away for long periods of time. This is obviously what they are intended for, but if you're lugging then around and packing and unpacking them they are more likely to fail. Having said that, if you want to give them a go, Argos have them, but they also have an interesting alternative that works on hand compression, so there's no need for a pump or vac - they are also a lot cheaper. To answer your original question, yes you can use any deflation device as long as it has a big enough attachment. We used to ask the site owners for use of a vacuum and they were always obliging.
I suggest you shop around as prices do vary.
The roll up ones are REALLY hard to roll... unless you are built like the worlds strongest man with the power to match lol. I found them to be a waste of money
I find the leccy pump works well on my big one but I dont expect it to last long. It feels very flimsy.
They are meant to reduce size by 75% but IMHO that is not true. Maybe 50 but certainly not 75.
I had some years ago for storing our bedding in our static over winter. Have to say i didnt find them very successful. They may be better nowdays though.
