Hi all,
Having had a quick scout around, it seems clear that calor gas is significantly cheaper than campingaz.
We're looking at getting this stove link
* Has anyone got one running on Calor gas ? what type of cylindre is required (only campingaz cylindres are specified)
* will I need an extra adaptor to what comes wiht the stove ?
* As we're going to France (which apparently doesnt stock calor), we need to be sure we have enough stock to last out stay. We'll be camping a week, 2 adults+2 toddlers, and cooking breakfast and evening meals. What's people's guestimate of how much butane we're likely to need to comfortably cover 1 week ?

Sorry for the barrage of questions ! any pointers welcome.
Tim

That stove will run on either Camping Gaz or Calor Gas as there is no difference between them, they are both Butane but yes you will need a Calor regulator, they are around a fiver, a Calor Gas 4.5 kg should last more than a week with normal use

It looks like you can use any supply of gas as long as the regulator has a hose outlet on it. I wouldn't use campinggaz in the UK as the refill suppliers aren't as common as Calor gas.

Tim

I have that stove which we use for outdoor cooking when its hot and I run it of Calor Gas, the propane variety but it would work equally well on Butane. You will need a bottle top regulator and a sufficient length of gas tubing. If its any help we use 6kgs gas bottles and after an 8 week trip round Germany we are still on the same bottle so even the smallest Calor bottle (4.5kgs) should last you far more than a week.

Hi Tim,

I've got a campingaz stove and I always use calor gas, I bought 2 x 4.5kg empty cannisters on e-bay for £15.00.
I did have to buy a regulator, which cost me approx £6.00
and the refill gas cost me £12.50.
Hope that helps.
Thanks Allison

thanks all.
Sounds like a 4.5kg will do the job for the week.
I might have a look around for a second hand empty cannister to start with.
Cheers,
Tim
