I am looking at buying a better coolbox,

I have at present a basic £10 one from a supermarket. keeps cool for 1-2 days just about

How do the electric ones work, do they need to be plugged in all the time or would they keep cool enough when plugged in, out in the car for a couple of hours

Or what would you recommend

I find that in a tent a normal coolbox does not suffice as it can get very hot in a tent. I have a plug in coolbox from Halfords and leave it plugged in the whole time when we are away. While we are travelling if you plug it in for a couple of hours before you set off it will stay cool for a while. We can plug ours into the cig adaptor thing in car though.

Mine arrived today from worldofcamping - I'm testing it in the kitchen on the mains, it's a bit noisier than I was expecting, but I've never seen/heard one in action before. The instructions reckon you can run it for 3 hours without the car engine on and it won't kill your battery.
