hi folks would using a campingaz chef cooker as heating be practical or would it be more cost effective to use a dedacated heater in a tent. i.m thinking about getting a blue cat heater.
i would never advise using a cooker as heating in a tent (or anything gas based) unless it is well ventilated or you can leave a door part open (which kinda defeats the object of heating) purely because of the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. i suffered mild poisoning from carbon monoxide some years ago from a faulty gas fire and it is not pleasant,
you feel constanly tired, burning up when sitting "facing" the heat source but the back of you is still really really cold. but stupid me, until last year didn't realise that i'd been "re-poisoning" myself by using a cooker as tent heating.
i'm sticking to hot drinks and a hot water bottle this year. (as i don't use EHU).
thanks for the replys . i dont have an ehu at the moment but might get one in the future. also i dont like the idea of poisioning the family ....not yet anyway! i've ordered a blue cat heater but i imagine it would give off same gasses as the fuel is the same as the cooker.
There is no such thing as bad weather just bad clothes!!!
I've never had heating in a tent & I've never been cold.
Except once. In the middle of ..................August!!!

Do you have EHU if so we find a small fan heater works great the 1 we have has a built in thermostat that keeps the living area at a nice temperature.
Hope this helps
Andy
I agree. We finally settled for an electric fan heater and its the best one yet. As above, it has different heat settings inc one to keep the room cool in summer, a thermostat and cant remember exact price but was only about £12. Also tried one of the halogen heaters but it was rubbish. Only heated you if you were sat almost on top of it.
As I understand it any gas appliance like you're suggesting must have adequate ventalation to prevent carbon monoxide build up. I shall stick with lx variety when on EHU or freeze. I don't want to run the risk.
------------- If you have a problem stressing you, sort it. If you can't, there's no point worrying about it coz it won't make a blind bit of difference!!!! Jules
