Would anyone be interested in buying a small unit that once fitted to your caravan with a very simple 2 or 4 wire installation would tell you if your car is charging your van battery (only if car is connected). The condition of your battery & if your 12s socket is connected and working correctly.
The unit would cost £29.95 + P&P.
It would be supplies with very clear and simple installation insturctions.
We would need to make 65 of these, and then to sell all 65 to make it the price shown above and we are keen to know peoples thoughts.
The unit would have a full 12mth warranty and support vial e-mail if required.
Hi, Thanks for your question, Yes our device would work with a 13 pin socket, The unit could be fitted anywhere, I have mine fitted in the van by my mains switch, You could however install it anywhere,
The unit is 73mm x 52mm x 25mm, It will be white in colour and have a inremental LED indicator and a push to test button.
Hope this answers your question.
Ref the price, What sort of money would you expect to pay for this kind of device? As large orders would attract a keener sales price.
a fiver? just how much are LED's and a diode and a few bits and bobs?
the strange thing is whilst your car is moving and charging you battery your not permitted by law to see your gadget anyway
perhaps an in car version would work
Hi, If we were to make 100,000's of these then the price may well drop, We know that LEDS and diodes do not cost alot but it is the PCBs that will infalte the first few productions,
This is the answer from the Design Engineers.
I think that the best way to answer this is that it provides far more functionality in that it is not active when the vehicle isn’t charging therefore does not drain the battery when not in use. Its competitive on cost when compared to other devices on the market doing similar job but has advantage that can been hidden in dark places and still able to be seen by the user. Here I’m talking about analogue meters, or even digital meters which would mean the user has to understand about battery voltages and whats a good voltage or bad voltage. This little box tells you all you need to know at a single glance, GREEN is good YELLOW is OK and RED is BAD. Even when the car is not charging you can seen the battery voltage at the push of a button, no car in sight even if it was pitch black in the dead of night. They are basically paying for there lack of technical knowledge and pure convenience.
my zig has two leds one green one red
having made PCB's etching them is very cheap ,the design though may cost if its a third party design ,if its not copyrighted then just use one to clone into thousands
putting a 5p "touch to make" switch in the feed from the battery makes it not a drain on the battery ,not rocket science.
have a search on the web theres probably scores of free battery indicators with the schematics to play with ,enjoy
what you need is an AMP counter ,you set how many amps the battery holds then counts down as the AMPs are used giving a definitive battery state ,just using volts is useless
