I have just paid £16 for my BP Gaslight 10Kg refill.

My father in law just went to get a refill for a Camping Gaz 907 cylinder and was quoted £18! That's £2 more, for a quarter of the quantity if gas. Any idea why it's so expensive?

Camping Gaz has always been expensive in comparison to other brands of gas. However you do have to remember that the cylinders are very much smaller so a bigger proportion of what you pay will be taken up with the refilling and safety checks. You also have to balance the convenience that a smaller cylinder can give, especially if you don't use a lot of gas. I suppose in the end its a case of paying your money etc etc!

because people stump up ,same with everything if you refused to pay exorbitant prices the price would drop or the manufacturer goes out of business.

Blimey - it's got a slightly lower calorific value too :-

Fuel        MJ/kg
Propane   49.9
Butane        49.2

I know butane is a pain in cold weather, but is it easier to use in hot weather ?

My little Coleman stove uses a mixture and is very powerful.

We only use gas for the oven so a 907 is ideal for us.  In Spain it is around 10€ and last year in Slovenia we paid 3€ for a refill.

So perhaps we should rename this thread Why is Camping Gaz so expensive in the UK? Another example of rip-off Britain?
