Hello

We are looking to buy an electric cool box for our motorhome boot.

There seems to be plenty to choose from.  We would like one that is pretty quiet (as it will be plugged in under my bed!) and works well in warm weather.

Your recommendations would be appreciated - we expect to pay between £80 - £120.

Thanks to all who post. :-)

I read and read and hummed and ha-d and eventually skipped the Peltier coolbox option and settled on a proper little fridge - a Waeco CAB40 - my Brother's has served him well for 10 years of frequent family camping.

A bit heavy on the electricity, but no noisy fan. And it runs on gas too so I can have luxury even without EHU.

I'm sitting here at home on a muggy evening with properly cooled drinks (3 degrees C) and even a few icecubes if I want them

And either the thermostat's broken or the insulation is very effective as I keep turning it down.

Why does a cheap domestic fridge cost £99 but a camping fridge costs between £120 and£175. I realise that they run 12v/240v and gas but I think that the price for a relatively small piece of kit is a bit steep.

As Rex says elsewhere, there's a very limited demand for these compared to the domestic market. They also have boxed-in condensers and are quieter running - silent in the case of the CAB40 - which uses very old-fashioned, but appropriate technology ...

And yes, they do run on both gas and electricity - which is rather neat. (don't tell my supplier, but I suspect I will have the back off to investigate before long

I'm surprised they didn't fit a thermometer though ...

I suppose it depends on your personal cash-flow how much of a problem it is investment-wise, but I'm currently thinking about 21 weeks of camping at least over the next 7 years.
