Had a bit of an accident - thought I would check out these cobblestones on the cob and cook some breakfast.
First mistake was natural firelighgters which of course are wax and something, the firelighter took longer to burn than the cobbllestone did to ligght as did the wax from the firelighter.
After breakfast was cooked I thought I must take off the frying pan thing as I had read that bit! Thought don't really want this thing exposed so would put the lid on.....
However I underestimated the heat left in the cobblestone and when I looked the plastic handle on the lid was melting
The moral of the story is - do ot underestimate the heat that is given off by the cobblestone and do what I have done!
Yep Nannycatch you're right. The cobblestones are easly lighters so all you do is light a match & put it in the middle of the stone & it just takes a minute to take hold.
I just bought a cobb, took advantage of ukcs offer.
I'm impressed with it. cooked a full chicken with ten charcoal briquettes. cooked veg in foil around moat.
not cheap but very good. not tried cobblestones yet, I bought a 5kg bag of charcoal, oops. seperated them into bags of ten. I think i'll still be using it next year.
We're off to Kendal on Monday, and a trip to Lakeland in on the agenda. Might well pick some of theses up. We use our Cobb a lot, as we do lots of jacket spuds, and anything that makes it quicker would be great.
I have a bucket bbq from Woolworths like this one here does anybody know if the cobblestones will work in it?. Am not sure as I think the cobblestone might be too far away from the grill so might not be hot enough?
The first batch of cobblestones I brought took some lighting, ended up having to put slivers of firelighter in the holes. Just got a new supply and they've improved them, they are no problem to light. The best thing about them is that once they're lit it's only a couple of minutes before the Cobb is ready to cook on.

thanks xoopsx
I'm interested in this because I have one too. I would think that putting some rocks in the bucket, then placing Cobblestones on top, would do the trick.

But are Cobblestones appropriate for this use?
Don't know if they would work, they do get really hot but a cobb's not like a normal bbq all the heat would be focussed in the middle rather than distributed around like normal bbq briquettes. Works in a cobb because of the design of the cobb with the lid on the top. unless you used more than one, which would work out expensive.
while I have been looking into cobblestones I have found the cobb site which you can get a replacement plastic handle for the top of the lid which melted - see here
