Just invested in some air beds. Didn't really want to fork out for picnic blankets as well as fleeces so had a brainwave..........or what I thought was one. Survival balankets for under the airbeds, cheap and insulating aren't they? Ordered, arrived and I did a quick search under the equipment section here. Oh dear got slated. I did get fleece blankets from ikea for under the sleeping bags on top of the airbeds. Anyone know if it's worth trying the survival blankets under or should I charity shop them as am not planning trying a triathlon any time soon.
During my recent trip I had a doubled up tarp, then a footprint groundsheet, then the bedroom SIG, then the rubber airbed, then an old sleeping bag, then a sheet, then me. :)
I considered saving up foam packing material to put between the airbeds and the bedroom SIG, but didn't get around to it.
One thing I will use next time is some of those antislip mats here and there between the layers to stop the bedroom sliding into the main tent.
That, and / or some sort of right-angled "headboard" to stop the pillow falling down the back.
Footprint, SIG, fleece underblanket, sheet, then winter tog duvet on top. Toasty!
------------- If you have a problem stressing you, sort it. If you can't, there's no point worrying about it coz it won't make a blind bit of difference!!!! Jules
We did footprint, sig, pod ground sheeet, waterproof picnic rug, airbed, fleece blanket (£2 Asda), sleeping bag, fleece blanket.
Had blow up pillows but never again , couldn't get comfy and they kept falling off - bought real ones (cheapest possible) and the fleeces slid off the bed during the night.
Bought one of the silver backed stawish type mats and was thinking they may be good under the airbed then re-thought as worried in case splinters would puncture them.
We use space blankets as they are tiny and yes they do work !
This is how we work it......
Tarp
SIG or loose groundsheet
Bedroom SIG
Space blankets
Fleece blankets
Sleeping bag with cotton inner (made them myself out of old duvet covers)
Never cold at night :)
The fleeces shouldnt slip off if on the fleecy topped airbeds but you can attach elastic that goes either over the corners or underneath the airbeds to hold them on.
If space is an issue, get a fleece matress cover. They roll up smaller than fleece blankets, and it will stay on the airbed better as they have elasticated sides.
if your going to get rid of your space blankets - you will be better giving them to a special needs school or sensory room - although relatively cheap to buy - kids get hours of fun from them through specialist play - i know that we go through loads
are all the different blankets and fleeces under and over the air beds just to keep you warm or is ther another reason.? We just use an air bed and 3season sleeping bag and are plenty warm enough.

where do you buy space blankets from?
In a word.... insulation
Camping stores sometimes have them and possibly the army navy stores
Or online
They pack real small. not as small as when you get them but still small

Yes, another reason. When the cold air in the airbed hits the warmth your body gives off (even through a sleeping bag), it can cause condensation. So if you wake up with a damp sleeping bag, don't blame the OH for wetting the bed
