But if you camp in France lots, there is only Campingaz.

With the best will in the world, where did you get that idea from? All the Supermarket garages sell "gas" of various types. You should be able to fimd something to suit.
btw - Camping Gaz has been a rip-off since Old Nick was a little lad

sorry, I meant that if you camp in France lots you won't get calor gas, so it can be better to use campingaz. All those bottles in petrol stations are a huge mystery to me.
I just paid £16 for a 10Kg BP Gaslight refill - a quarter of the price of the Camping Gaz equivalent!
This will last us for 2 years in the caravan at least - barely used 5Kg last year.
The 5Kg BP Gaslight is quite user friendly, being light (plastic cyclinder) and easy to handle (and you can see through the translucent wall to see what's left) so maybe an alternative for you?

I carted 2 empty 907s with us when we went to France 'cos I thought it would be cheaper to get re-fills there, but everywhere we looked you had to pay for the cylinder as well, so we gave up and I brought them home empty.
Caz, you have to pick up a full bottle and present that and your empty at the checkout and you'll only get charged for the refill, at least that's what we did this year at Leclerc, cost was 18.5 euros.

The bottled gas cylinders you get in most French supermarket forecourts are meant for domestic use in kitchens, and they all take weird fittings. Our normal CampingGaz or Calor regulators won't fit them. Also you'd have to pay a deposit for the bottle. And then what do you do when you've got half a bottle left and it's time to go home?
Nope, the most economical option is to use Calor in the UK, agreed. But then either borrow a CampingGaz bottle plus regulator for your French trip, or buy the regulator and see if you can scrounge a CampingGaz cylinder at the tip. As I said I've never had any problem finding CampingGaz refills in supermarkets at well under €20 per refill and two refills lasted me a six week trip, so it was hardly a cripping expense. I use a TT or tent on my French trips so carrying one of these vast Calor bottles in the car is not an option. If you've got a caravan or motorhome then take your Calor by all means, but make sure you've got enough to last you the trip.

Ah, thanks, will do that next time!

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.
I use both camping gas and calor gas and take both with. Here are my rules
1) Use calor gas as much as you can. Use the biggest bottles you can as these are much cheaper. Pricing seems to be pretty standard wherever you buy it.
2) I take camping gaz only for a couple of items which I can't run on calor due to the design, and also in case I run out of calor gas whilst abroad (you can only get calor in the UK). If you are going abroad try to take full calor bottles and empty camping gaz bottles.
3) Always buy from a main supplier. You will get ripped off if you buy camping gaz at the local or site shop whether in the UK or abroad.
4) I always buy camping gas abroad, it is cheaper. About 18-19 euros in the hypermarket.
