I want to get a porch awning for our caravan, but can't seem to fine one the right height. I've checked many places but all the ones I've seen are for a height of 235-250cms - our caravan only measures 223cms. Anyone any idea where I can get a shorter awning?

This is a problem many caravanners have. The answer seems to be to use a freestanding motorhome awning - but not a campervan one as they only seem to go to 210 cms.

The Ultima 260 was a bit too short to get round our front window on Avondale Orestes 2berth, which also isnt tall enough, but I lashed out on one, and figure that if I make a couple of velcro-ed awning side strips (using a bead off some skirting), and put the other half velcro on the canvas edges, it will stretch out to make a full awning, with a little slack above the side doors, which I will take up with another bit of velcro. Our van is about 760mm from ground peg to ground peg, I will post when I have completed the job of making it fit (I hope!!)
PS I tried making my own bead on the last awning, and found that stitched-in rope swells a lot when wet!!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Coincidentally we have an NR free standing drive away awning so I know they are good quality, and it's about the right size in area but it's not right for our caravan. However, hopefully I may have got the problem solved - watch this space.

Well thanks to this site we have now got ourselves a very nice-looking porch awning which we hope to get a lot of use out of in the months and years to come.
Thanks Ray, it was a pleasure to meet and chat to you, and if we ever bump into you on a site somewhere you're welcome to come for a brew. Give Jasper a cuddle from us!
