We got a 7kg bottle from our local tip for the price of some tea and biscuits. we bought the other from a local car boot for £4 what sort of price is it for a 7kg blue calour gas bottle refill ?
It kind of annoys me that when you buy a new bottle they charge a fortune as a "deposit" but they don't take old ones back if you're not refilling. That's not really a deposit is it?! We ended up with two bottles because we went camping once and forgot ours, so had to buy another. To my mind they should refund upon return.
Although, thinking about it more, perhaps that would create a huge theft problem on camp sites - can you imagine if kids could get £20 for just taking back a gas bottle! Maybe it's better as it is.

Anyone know a tip in Surrey that will give them out?
On a slightly different note, I've got an old 15kg bottle in the shed that i had for the old gas bbq, do you think there would be any problem exchanging it for a smaller one or is that a no no?
I noticed in the March Caravan Club Magazine a voucher for £10 off BP Gas Light bottles, the offer is only through Homebase stores, 13th March to 27th March.

Everywhere I have been just requires on of the same make, no problem exchanging a 4.5kg for a 15kg or vice versa.
Anyone near me wants one I have a spare you can have just let me know & its yours.
As for different gas & size , as long as its Calor it makes no difference.
Our Calor depot, you drive in put your empty in the yard & go in the office to pay for a new one, no one asks or checks what or if you placed an empty outside. Just brazen it out.

It is the gas companies that charge the deposit, not the shop. Years ago I worked in a place that sold gas, and we were charged for the bottles. Our local recycling centre will no longer take them. However, I have seen load advertised on Freecycle.
Nor ours, Camping nutcase, which is a shame as we could do with another...
I was under the impression that you "rent" the cylinders (which remain the property of Calor) and buy the gas. Legally, you don't own the cylinder, and can't even give it away! All you are legally allowed to do is store it, use the gas, and get it exchanged for another one.
4. Use of Cylinder – Cylinders may be used only as a container for Gas and may not be sold, exchanged (other than for the Purpose of this agreement), hired, assigned, transferred, mortgaged, lent, abandoned, nor damaged, defaced, decanted, filled or tampered with. The User will not part with possession or control of the Cylinders (other than to a Calor outlet) nor claim to have any rights in breach of this agreement, nor create any agency or bailment in relation to the Cylinders or to the User’s obligations.
As for returning the cylinder to Calor for refund, you need your original contract paperwork ... er, you did keep that in a safe place all those years ago, didn't you?
7. Termination by the User – This agreement remains in force for 50 years. The User may terminate this agreement by returning the Cylinder(s) in good order to a CALOR outlet nominated for this purpose and shall be entitled on presenting this agreement to a refund of a proportion of the Refill Agreement Charge.
Course, if Calor asked to see the agreement before they'd exchange the cylinders, a lot of people would have serious problems...
