We are off to France for about five months or so. So a good chance of running out of gas.
Recently at a rally, a guy who travels a lot round europe recommended a electric hot plate to cook on. The idea your paying for the electric anyway.
Have never thought about this but I guess a good idea.
We will be in a caravan. Does anyone have any recommendations of using one of these? Also thinking is it just another thing to take. Have already ditched the idea of taking the sewing machine!!
Thanks

I have a russell hobb multi - cooker, non stick and it will do your full english, casserole, stew, deep fry and it has a steamer bit as well.
Call a multi- cooker, brilliant piece of kit, especially when you are short of space.
after use I fill it with water and switch on, it becomes its own washing up bowl.
Also used it to have a wash in the morning, when the site loos were not so good.
it starts at 'keep warm' to 250deg.
Hot plate, I have a Palson which I use when cooking for 6 ppl, that too is brill.
But if only two ppl then the multi cooker will suit your needs.------------- Lunnie lunnmail

we take a 2 ring electric hotplate, a small electric oven, and a multi-cooker. use them whenever possible rather than the gas.------------- Jennifer

I have for use at home an Induction hot plate, it is so fast you wouldnt believe and low use of electric. Makro £20 covered by gas rings over and just use this.
Will take in the van when camping. Boils water quicker than the kettle.------------- Lunnie lunnmail

It depends on the campsite supply,a lot of French sites have 6 amps sometimes less so the plate really needs to be no more than 1000 watts to be on the safe side.

I got one of those - it's very handy in the caravan. Would be too much on 6 amp though - it's 2Kw.

Thanks for your suggestions.
Confused now as looked at mutlicookers which look good. The one I saw was 1700w which husband said no way!
Have now been looking at Remoska cookers that seem to do everything but are about 750w?
Only trouble is the price??????????? AHHHH I think we would need the large size which is a mere £108!!!!!
Have any of you got one and are they really worth it. Pros and cons. Already have a cadac but aagain thats gas.
Thanks

the twin hob we have has plates of 800watts and 1200 watts, so you can use whatever suits your hook up, since we got it we have hardly used gas for cooking. then you can use whatever pan or pot you need. think it was about £30 from argos. the oven is 1300 watts, £20 from lidl.------------- Jennifer
