Need to replace our fridge-box thingy - was a cheapy from Asda 2 years ago, but got too noisy towards the end of last summer.

We've never gone away camping more than 5 days, so I was wondering about the Igloo Maxcold range.  Was about to buy when I realised it isn't powered (doh!).  How much ice do you have to put in to keep it cold?  At high summer will it still do the job for 5 days?

We've got ones of those. We used first for a week in Scotland in May a couple of years ago and it worked really well. We just bought a bag of ice from the supermarket and added the freeze packs from home. The ice lasted 5 days as promised. We then 'upgraded' to a plug in one (mostly because the igloo was so big) which doesn't seem to work as well - probably because it only gets charged when we're driving as we don't use EHUs.

One word of warning though - the igloos don't double as seats. Ours is now ruined after we broke a chair and used it instead one evening. An ominous cracking sound was heard and it's leaked ever since. Still works really well as a drinks cooler at parties though!!!

that was going to be my next question, so thanks!

I'll have to go measure the current box to see how much room I've got to play with - the car has to be packed in a very specific way if everything is to fit (we've even got photos to help us!).
