I use a clip-on light powered from a watch battery that I bought from Waterstones. Had it 3 years and although the battery has been changed 4 times, it hasn't let me down once. Great on the eyes, targeted light, doesn't wind your sleeping partner up either.
we got a couple of wind up torches for that, but noticed that they really lose light power after a few minutes.I am planning on buying a head torch as soon as i can.

I often use a headtorch for reading in the tent - it's great till hubby speaks to me, and I look up at him.........ooops, bright light straight in his eyes
