Hi to all on ukcs I am a virgin camper so please be gentle...I have been trawling the threads on this excellent site for about a month now and would like to tap your seemingly expert collective advice if possible.
I am a v.large (mid 20st) man and a none too small OH I am trying to put together a set of camping equipment for our family (11, 14, OH and myself) and need a bit of advice on airbeds for the larger person (me). I think that I have narrowed it down to a coleman comfort double for myself/oh and 2 singles for the children. Do any of the larger campers among you (assuming there are some ) have any experience of these airbeds ? I have read most of the threads about them but am really looking for experiences (good or bad) from the heavier amongst us.
My other choice , again through reading reviews on this site would be an aerobed active for OH/me but would they be worth the extra money given the issue above ? I know the answer would be to lose 10st but I dont think I will manage it by July (our 1st planned outing) lol.

Yes, I'm a whopper with a small wife. The Coleman double height one is excellent - get an electric pump. The only prob we found is that it is quite high and the bedroom inners slope in quite a lot over my face at the back, so I ended up with flappy cloth in my face. Go for a tent with extra long and wide speeping compartments.

I use the Thermarest DreamTime XL, far better than any airbed, but that's just my opinion, anyway you could be in luck, there is one for sale on here at £80 the RRP is £170!, got mine from "The Out Door Shop" at £119 each, they clip together to make a Queensize bed, more of a sleeping system than just a self inflating matt, and they come with a life time warranty. superb bit of kit.
We use the red-and-blue box-type ones from Argos, and we're both on the large side.
We've used the double one for a few years now, with no problems, but to give us some extra room for rolling over in the night without waking each other up we're now trying 2 singles, which still fit in the bedroom pod.
As long as you have no problems getting up from the floor the Coleman Comfort is superb, I have been 21st in the past & it stayed up, the air bed that is what we did to raise it a bit was to put the Gelert double underneath it, I cant wait to get to bed some nights its that comfy.
