Hi, I've already run out of budget for fancy gear (bought lovely new Cadac), but I need some storage. Previously I've travelled with two small stepladders and some planks of wood for shelving (sounds strange, but I need one stepladder anyway...), but to be honest it's a bit cumbersome. I have been wondering whether, instead of buying a larder, which don't look very big, or strong enough for wine and tins, I should buy a B&Q style 3/4 tier growhouse (the ones with the plastic cover) would be better value and provide more sturdy storage, while being small enough, and dismantleable (I shouldn't need the cover). Am I mad??? Anyone tried this/got any advice?
Sometimes I use a tunnel tent, but the main use for this would be when using the frame tent. The gear travels in the camper van, so there's some space (though it's usually crammed with other 'luxuries' as well).
I haven't tried this particular use, but I do have one (and don't use the cover either). My main concern would be that they aren't designed to be dismantled / put back together all the time. On mine, at least, the poles fit quite tightly and it doesn't come apart very easily. Might be no problem though.
On the plus side, they do make sturdy shelves, providing you don't have small objects which will fall through, though you could use seed trays for those ;) Also, if it's like mine, if you buy one with four shelves, you can assemble only 2 or 3 if you like, giving you a bit more flexibilty.
Hi quite a few years ago I bought a mini greenhouse for ten pounds for this exact same reason. I was a bit hard up at the time but really felt I needed a camp kitchen so I bought a greenhouse to tide me over till i was a bit more flush next season. You'll be pleased to know its still going strong, after about 10 years of use! I place my camping stove on the top shelf and all my bits n bobs in colapsable crates on the lower shelves.
It can be zipped up and left outside in all weathers. It really is one of those things that I bought on the off chance it might 'do' for one season and ended up a permanent piece of kit. I never did get round to replacing it as its perfect for the job!

What a great idea, that one also seems slightly taller then the camp kitchen's i have been looking at, & alot cheaper. Keep us informed on the collapsability , please.
what a great idea, could think of many many uses around the home for one of those, ideal for the porch to keep shoes, wellies and waterproofs on, will look into that one.
Brilliant! I've had one for the past year which I bought because I needed a replacement plastic cover for my existing greenhouse. Its been completely useless until now but since we've bought the Sun Valley 6 we've got plenty of room for a kitchen unit but, like most of you out there, are trying not to spend, spend, spend! I'll let you know how it works out when we go for our first week in May. Likewise the Lidl bbq for £4.88!
