I have just had my day made by a man called Kevin who saw my wanted ad on this website - he has sold me his Bear Lake 6 for £180 in excellent condition. Can't believe my luck!!!
I am now wanting people to give me their views on thing such as concertina kitchens, matresses, fridges or coolboxes etc.
Makes, models - are they worth taking, how much they cost etc.
Also would anyone recommend the side extension for the BL6? I know it's a fair amount of money to spend - but again is it worth the money?? Oh & carpet, footprint & windbreak!!!!
Thanks to anyone reading this & offering me any advice - it's all greatly appreciated.
------------- AWARDED BEST ACCESSORY BY 'CAMPING' MAGAZINE MARCH 2011
Delta Ground Anchors..the strongest, most secure tent pegs in the world! Nylon anchors twice as efficient as rock pegs in 'average' soil! Quality stainless pegs for tougher soil are available.
What a bargain - Make sure you see the tent etc before paying for it as its seems a bit too good to be true. Hope it all turns out well for you though!!!
We have had a concertina kitchen unit for about 3 years and they are ok once up and clipped in but a bit of a bugger to put up - normally takes 3 of us all holding different shelves to get them in the right place!!!
Definately recommend a footprint for your tent as it has a SIG so this will help keep the sewn in one nice and clean. You don't have to buy one made for the tent though we use a cheap b & q tarp cut to size (about £5). You can get a nice clean one each year for that price.
We have a carpet for our tent and it has definately made a difference to how warm the tent is at night. It is a must have for us now and makes it very cosy
Apart from the tent the most important items to spend your money on are good quality airbeds/mats and sleepingbags. I would suggest buying the best quality you can afford. The Coleman Comfort Airbeds are rated highly on this forum. Looking for the best price for one myself at the moment. You can pick the double up for approx £25.00.
I am really nervous about the tent now. I only hope that he is a trustworthy person.
I guess you hope that everyone in life is as honest as yourself & base some judgements on trust. I hope my instincts are right - it seems too good to be true, but i'm hoping it is true. I'll let you know if & when it arrives.
We have his name, address & telephone number (yes i know they might not be real) and his bank details so we can trace anything back if need be.
Will wait until it arrives until we splash the cash! Will definitely get the footprint & carpet & then look into the extension. I know we need to get decent airbeds as a good nights sleep is definitely top of the list!!!
Keep your fingers crossed for me folks & kick me & call me stupid if things don't arrive. You can always say "we told you so" too!!!
Certainly sounds a fantastic deal. Fingers crossed.
As for the other bits and pieces...
Consider if you can survive without a fridge for a while. Buying a fridge means you will need EHU which means extra costs.
As for sleeping - I have coleman comfort and I'm very happy. Kids have Vango midi sleeping bags and we have a couple of very thick SunnCamp bags (600 gm2) which were fairly cheap and can double as quilts or zip together to make a double.
My footprint is a cheap B&Q tarp cut to size.
We don't have a carpet but many people on here buy a couple of picnic blankets to throw on the floor. These will be a fraction of the price.
Oh yea, consider some of Rob's delta pegs if you are fairly inexperienced at pitching a tent and expect to camp in windy conditions.
Have you handed the money over before you have got the tent? I really hope it turns up, but I've been hearing a lot lately about someone answering wanted ads and then the goods don't turn up. Good luck and I hope he's as trustworthy as he should be . Happy Camping ( Put a smiley here, mine won't work )
------------- If my post appears offensive just ignore me - sometimes my medication does not work :)
Hi - we have not received the tent. I have had a call from Keving advising me that the money has been sent to me today. He is such a lovely man. He has responded promptly to all my text messages. We paid by putting money into his account - we did not post it to him.
I will let everyone know what happens this week.
Also do you know how to send somebody a private message rather than putting it onto the forum? Never done it before - it's all new to me!!!
There are no private messages on the forum, if you want to send an email to a member you can send a message to Webmaster (contact us button top of page) and he will forward it for you.
