I'm looking to buy something to heat the tent (it is an outwell iowa L - sleeps 4/6 in 3 rooms). At the moment I have no gas bottles (only the gas cannisters that fit the briefcase style stoves) nor any equipment to supply elec from a hook up (but will probably get one at some point)
Which is best electric or gas powered heaters? Also which are the best of both type?
From a safety point of view I have electric, just a small fan heater with auto cut off if its knocked over. I have two dogs with me, so wouldnt feel safe with gas. I suppose the same would apply to children.
I dont know what the condensation is like with a gas heater, but as I have a SIG, I felt I didn't want to chance it.
Cost is only one aspect to look at, space, safety and health (for want of a better phrase) should be considered too.

You can only use a gas heater for a short time in a tent whereas an electric one can be left on for longer (overnight on a low setting if necessary).
As Breeze suggests a fan heater is probably the best general purpose type. The larger upright ones are often quieter than the small flat type.
Why can you only use a gas heater for a short time in a tent , interested to know as we are in the process of buying one as well and I am trying to go no EHU.
Mad House - Gas requires oxygen to burn, if you run a gas heater without adequate ventilation (i.e. in a tent) you will probably end up with a banging headache (if not worse)!
When we had our tent we had two, we had a Gas Blackcat to take the edge of quickly and then we would use an electric oil filled type for the duration
Good heat and it makes no noise.
Apart from Black/Blue Cat heaters where there is njo flame, I don't know of one made for use in a tent. Another consideration is the risk of fire due toi the thing being knocked or having stuff fall on it. Look up tent fire on You Tube.
