Just got back from a weekends camping and SWMBO wants some new sleeping bags!! Can anybody explain the 1, 2 and 3 seasons types to me and any recommendations for a good quality reasonably priced WARM bag. I would be after 4 (2 adult and 2 childrens, or maybe just 4 adult sized). I presume the the 'mummy' type are better than the square type as your body is constricted more, but does this not restrict your movement when turning over etc. and therefore wake you up?
If you are looking for something warm then go fo a 3 season sleeping bag. Coleman Hudson and Outwell Contour are all good and used by a lot of folks here.
You can always get fleece sleeping bag linsers to make them even warmer
I like Decathlon. They rate their bags by temperature, and they do different sizes. If the bag is the right size its warmer, although I prefer a bit of room to move around!
Hi. The season rating is a rough guide to when it is suitable for use. So a 1 season bag is only suitable for summer use, a 2 season bag is suitable for late spring through to early autumn, and a 3 season bag is suitable for spring summer and autumn.
These are very rough guides as everyone is different and it depends on what sort of camping you are doing, and where. Temperature ratings are a better guide but remember that they usually assume you will be in a tent, using a sleep mat, and wearing night clothes.
Mummy style bags tend to be a little warmer and pack up a little smaller, but some people find them a little restrictive.
I would always suggest getting a bag a little warmer than you think you need.

The TSB is the mummy equivalent.
The big advantage of the envelope style is that they are better for zipping together to make a double bag.
Go outdoors have frontier sleeping bags three season ones which will be able to use all year as they can be used for minus 3 degrees. The single ones are mummy and are great for the children they are 15.00 in sale.
Ihave tesco own for me and my husband only a tenna and is very warm.
Morrisons have a 1-2 season one on offer for a £5.00 and are very warm. Hope this is helpfull. They are not restricted for you to move in.
