Anyone know why this caravanning and camping store has closed?  I see they have taken the branch off their website.  Tried to pop in today but gates shut and a lot of caravans and motorhomes gone.

Don't know the reasons, other than economic downturn or maybe expanded too fast. They have closed about half of their outlets in the last month or so.

Last Nights Portsmouth Evening News article below... it appears that Portsmouth is amongst many of its branches closed..

 

Caravan firm closes

A caravan business has closed down, putting 21 employees out of work.
Discover, a national caravan dealership, has shut its site at London Road, Widley, because it was no longer 'commercially viable'.

The company said it had to sacrifice the site to ensure the stability of the rest of the firm's other outlets.

Commercial director Adrian Storr said: 'Site closures and redundancies are always regrettable, and in the case of our Portsmouth branch this was a difficult decision. We have loyal and hard working employees and we are pleased that a number of the team are to stay for a short period to help fulfil all customer commitments.'

Although no more sales will be made from the site, there will still be a team on site until end of tomorrow to complete remaining transactions.

Not sure why it closed but all i can say is went last weekend lots of vans etc went back this weekend to get gas as you say it was shut feel sorry for people who have purchased vans from there as many had sold signs on will they still get them?

OMG

How annoying.... thats my local shop, 5 mins away and i go there loads.

I had no idea they were closing, i was there just 2 weeks ago and all seemed well... and they were so helpful and often had really good bargains such as my delta ground anchors for 50p!

Where's our nearest decent camping shop in this area now? Discover was very convenient for me.  I suppose it's Dw camping in Chichester or Towsure in Southampton, a bit of a trek to get a tent peg!

for me its DW camping in chichester

but there is also the angling and camping store on london road in cowplain which will have gas / tent pegs and a few bits etv

There is also Chichester Caravans in Chichester and they have a branch at Fishers Pond also.  There shop is normally reasonable. 

For tenters there is also the shop that is next to Haskers Garden Centre at West End.

Can't think of anymore sorry!

Oh yes, the Range at Gosport sometimes has some good stuff for campers.

Our Discover in Orpington gone too. Still half full with caravans and motor homes. As in others some with 'Sold' on them. Cant believe it. They were always busy.

There used to be a little camping shop near to the Woodpecker Pub in Waterlooville.  Haven't been passed recently but it used to be ok.
