we have found go outdoors great we have only used online and made savings could have made more though
we ordered an aztec 12 tent , camping caz, camping chef and fold up table they sent it without the poles so when the poles came they had sent us another stove and table
airbeds didnt turnup once so they reordered then the first lot turned up 14 airbeds in total rofl
If you find yourself in Go Outdoors again without your card all you need do is give the person on the till your post code and then confirm your details and your still get the discount.
Had a chuckle to myself whilst at Go Outdoors last week with regards to staff knowledge, I overheard a conversation between a customer and their apparent tent expert !!
"Yes sir there are a lot of guy ropes but you dont need to use them they are only there for if it gets windy"
And the customer was looking at ...... an Outwell Montana 6 with the additional large sun canopy !!!!
Fills you with confidence I would say ?
------------- Dont dream your life, live your dream, or just go down the pub !!
Zorro, thanks for the info that's great. All local too! Looks like we have a busy shopping weekend ahead! GoOutdoors have an additional 15% off everything on Thursday night so I want to decide exactly what we need and then see if it's worth the trip or not. Window shopping tomorrow I think!
Wonder how many of you people work for go outdoors?
I was one of the disapointed ones. (Coventry store)
Mainly clothes, Tent section was sadly bare. Very limited choice.
Jackons have less space and pack so much in.
Did not see any fridges whilst there and none on the website, I presume you meant coolbox?
And you paid £65 for a tent thats listed on the net at £365 ?
I like the Wakefield shop (used to be Mitchells). Never had any problems there (except when it flooded - but even then they gave me a voucher for my wasted journey).
We use Go Outdoors in Wigan and have never been disappointed. Tend not to buy things when they are in season (and full price) but if you buy camping gear in January/February time you can get some really good deals. Our tent was reduced by over £100 (the outwell idaho xl) compared with the Summer 2008 price.
Also they do a price match thing whereby if you find an item cheaper anywhere else they will match that price and knock off a further 10%. So do your homework first.
I feel fairly flat about go outdoors; we've been, we've looked, we've even bought the odd bit or bob but we only go as it is there. We have a greal local camp shop - outdoor world and outdoor megastore, camperlands, JR leisure and the other Manchester stores are all driveable distances and much more preferable IMO.
The level of staff knowledge at GO really concerns me - what no guy ropes?
It's like anywhere else and for any other purchase...do your research and shop around, otherwise you won't get what you want at the best price.
Having said that I preferred to shop at my local camping emporium, Camping Ecosse, till it closed down a year or so back, even if I did have to pay a pound or two more. It was worth it to see stuff in the flesh, be able to chat to the very knowlegeble (if occasionally grumpy) staff and be able to order stuff in. I miss it.
I love go outdoors, it keeps me sane in the Winter. Only problem is it is 2 minutes down the road so i find myself in there too often. Luckily for me my local one is Wakefield(Middlestown) and it often floods so i have had some right bargains that have been flood damaged?
Got loads of stuff that the corners of their boxes had rippled with the water.
living in an area of the county that hasn’t really got any major camping suppliers we rely on mail order and online orders and I have tried Go Outdoors on more than one occasion and I must say that their internet order and delivery system is the worst I have come across
they do not seem to have any type of live stock system and they will accept orders for items that they do not have in stock and then they never bother to inform you about out of stock items and just send part of the order and cancel any out of stock items, also in the day and age of next day carriers their delivery time is one of the worst I have come across as well
I will admit that I have been in some of the stores and yes you can get some good bargains but only if you buy a discount card which I do not agree with and would not buy, I also agree on the standard of some of there vango products I looked at one of the vango venture 500 that they had on sale and the H H was lower than vangos at 1500 mm and the quality was not what I would expect of vango
My verdict is you can get better quality products and a better service from other online suppliers so go outdoors don’t get my vote this time
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
