It has no RCD for a start and I wouldn't use one without in the outdoors.

as sites have in built RCD's etc l reckon it may be ok, however l prefer to be double sure so l have a EHU with its own RCD's.  As many have said on here, its not worth saving pennys (ok then pounds) when it comes to safety.

I must add the last site l went to the hook up box looked like it was on its last legs, so can you really trust a sites RCD's

Good luck in your choice

I wouldn't use it as it has no inbuilt RCD. Remember you get what you pay for. I suggest you read the threads on here concerning EHU .

NO CHANCE

I would not buy this type of hook up, there is NO RCD or MCB protection provided. But, having said that, the socket is IP55 rated and that is better than some I've seen on E Bay!     Looks like the guy making these is relying on the site's RCD/MCB to protect you. Now, how many of you think to test the site RCD by pressing the test button before you plug in?

This type of EHU is typical of the sort that site owners won't allow you to use on their site.

  By the above I presume you mean the "Plug in" addaptor type as sold by Maplins, Better than nothing but not really suitable for this application because of their "IP" rating. In other words how much protection they give against touching live parts and ingress of moisture etc. In a tent you need at least an IP rating of IP55. which is what the commercialy available EHU's give you.

Happy Camping! Frank

Yes it's rubbish! Maybe IP55 rated but don't take much notice of that cos as soon as you plug something into it, the IP rating is no longer valid.

I am an electrician and I have the greatest respect for electricity!

Best price I have found anywhere for a damn good EHU is www.camping-online.co.uk  £50 for a single socket & £70 for a triple. Both have RCD & MCB protection.  Even being in the trade I can not make leads of this quality at a cheaper price.

Hope this helps.

IP rating is the Ingress Protection rating of a piece of equipment. Relates to Objects/Dusts/Liquids and the ability of the equipment to resist such things getting inside. First number relates to objects/dusts, second number relates to Water/Liquids.

IP44 = Water splashes, IP55 = Sprays/jets, IP56 = A good soaking, IP67 = Immersion.

Hope that clears it up a bit
