Have you got a satellite signal strength meter? What I do on UK sites is look where others are pointing their dishes and start from there. Are you getting nothing at all? If so it might be worth checking whether you have the receiver set to pick up the Astra Satellites.

Hi hallas.

Firstly if you have Sky at home, plug the Aldi receiver into your feed at home, if the Aldi receiver has not got Astra2 programed in then set it to do a blind search/scan, this will take a few mins, then if you are getting a picture, try again with the supplied dish, when you first get a portable satellite system it is very easy to give up, as finding the satellite for the first time can seem an impossible task, once you have mastered it, it becomes second nature, just remember you are pointing the dish at somthing that is 24000 miles away, and the dish only has to be 3mm out of line and you will not get a signal, unlike a TV aerial, which even when pointed in the oposite direction to were the signal is comming from will give you a picture, the adjustmants for aligning a satellite dish are very precise indeed, just persevere and you will get there, of course if your Aldi receiver came with a 35cm dish, I would ditch that in favour of a 60cm dish, which will make reception a lot easiar.

Andy.

I thought small dishes actually make finding the satellites easier than the larger ones, the signal isn't as strong though.

Hi tykey.

Your are correct in the fact that a smaller dish is easair to align than a larger dish, the reason for this is that the beamwidth of the dish reduces as the dish gets larger, of course if your dish is too small in the first place to collect enough signal then the smaller dish becomes useless, in the same way as the range of a rifle is better than a shotgun, although it is easiar to hit the target with a shotgun, so long as it is not to far away.

Hi tykey.

You would think with to-day's technology that a simple GPS type antenna, would be all you need to receive TV from a satellite, I am sure one day this will be the case, afterall you can receive TV on a mobile phone, my other wish is for Hydrogen generators to become cheaply available, and free us all from EHU, I can but hope and wait and see!.

Andy.
