As i understand it you exchange your empty for a full at most campsites for whatever fee they charge, as i dont have a blue one but have a red/orange one, could i use that and swap for a full blue, obviously paying for the gas.
Cheers in advance
Ah i see, it is a calor gas bottle, its from a fork lift that we hired in work but they forgot to take back the empty bottle.
It just that its the same as they use for statics so i thought it would just be a straight swap.
Never mind......
I'm also new to this and have just got an oldish Pennine Fiesta - the regulator on it is a 28mbar but the fixture on it only fits a camping gaz bottle. In the manual it says you can use butane so is it ok for me to change the regulator to one that fits a 4.5 kg butane gas bottle? Also, my local shop's regulators are all marked 29mbar not 28mbar - is that going to be a problem if the one on at the moment is 28? The size of nozzle for the hose from the camper to fit onto seems to be the same diameter. Sorry to display such ignorance but although I have phoned various calor gas outlets, no one seems to have the answer!
Yes, you can change the regulator for one that fits the 4.5Kg calor if the hose is in good condition i'd just cut about an inch off to make a clean end and fit the new regulator, if the hose is looking a bit tired you might want to consider changing that as well, 29 mb will be fine
Forklift propane works a different way- its drawn off as a liquid, not a vapour- theres a tube inside that goes to the bottom of the bottle- the liquid is vapourised by the vapouriser up near the engine. The fitting on top is different too- unlike anything else.
Hi Caster
Thanks very much for your reply. I thought it might be ok but gas is something you don't want to mess about with too much if you're not clued up about it! Cheers!
Hi j.gordon5-- you are exactly correct.....NEVER MESS WITH GAS OF ANY KIND....it is just not worth the trouble. Stick to what you should have and the correct regulator and pipe and all will be well. Gas doesn't just burn -- carbon monoxide is something else, the silent killer. Good Luck, Gary
As per V8trikemids' post, forklift gas bottles are liquid take-off, as opposed to vapour take-off - denoted by a black collar.
It may not be a straight swap as with regular Calor Gas bottles? Try it and see.
If they refuse a swap, don't accept a full forklift bottle as it won't do what you want it to do.
Cheers for the replies, i will get in touch with my local calor supplier.
I cant see why they wouldnt as its an 18kg bottle exchanged for a small 4.5kg.
Still there is always the dump, there are always gas bottles left there.
