We are new to camping and want to buy sleeping bags for everyone (2 adults and 2 children aged 4 and 6).
What weight should I buy? Not sure whether to get 2 or 3 tog? Don't want to be cold but then again if you get 3 tog will you be boiling over the summer? Imagine we will do most of our camping from may to september.
Should I go for a double bag or get singles that could zip if necessary?
What style is best - mummy or the normal square type ones?
What about my 4 year old. Can she go in an adult bag or should I get a childrens one?
I would go for the higher tog rating as you can always unzip if to hot!! .
We have two coleman kingsize bags and zip them together yo have loads of room.
And I have 2 kids one of them3 and have bought a child size bag as he kept sliding inside adult one .
mummy ones r ok if you like to feel very snug!. We bought these when we first got into camping but when we got home form shop and tried out in lounge i had only been in it 5 mins and felt very clastraphobic!!! as whenever you roll over it goes with you.
I would go for the higher tog we bought 2 tog and were too cold at night had to buy some more while away. I was advised at Yeomans that if you have mummy sleeping bags you can tie something round them so younger children dont slip under I have not tried this myself though as we have the square ones. I have a double which i share with my 1 year old and my Husband and son have singles.
We all have mummy sleeping bags (me, hubby and children aged almost 4 & 6). Halfords have a good offer on kids ones just now - £11 instead of £20. Bought my 3 year old one for out last trp and it kept her lovely and snug.
I wasn't so keen on my sleeping bag until I got an extension panel so that it's snug but roomy enough for me to move around.
Go for the warmest , its still often cold at night in the summer months .
I have these , they are extra long and extra wide. I can't stand being constricted in the mummy bags . they are extremely warm and comfortable, and if you get too hot you can always use it as a duvet . two can be zipped together to make a double as well.
Always go for the warmest ones. better to be a little hot and unzip a little than laying there shivering all night!
It can be pretty chilly laying on an airbed, so you may like to think about putting some insulation under the airbed, (a picnic rug or cardboard for example) can make a huge difference.
I prefer square style sleeping bags, my daughter likes her mummy style bag.

Best to pay more for good quality and higher tog. The children love them. Personally I prefer to take the duvet as it makes for a more normal cosy bed.

Definitely check out Vango's Astral range. We've used them for a few years and they're great. Oldest has moved up from the Midi (kids) to the full size this year. Nice thing is the price online around £12-13 for the wee ones and around £25 for the full size. Plenty of places sell them.

I agree with the other posts. A warmer sleeping bag can open out and be used as a duvet if it's too warm. But with a lighter one and you have to search around for extra layer of clothing in the early hours if it gets cool.
I find sleeping bags a nightmare to get right for everyone. I've just bought a 2-3 season bag but still too cold at night. Whereas my husband is too hot! Can you borrow from a friend and try before you buy? I've resorted to army issue down sleeping bags which were new and cost £35 inc del. from a surplus store. My son 11 has one too and loves it.
Personally I dont like mummy bags and find them restrictive, I prefer square style ones and the heavier the better as has previously been siad. The coleman hudson range imho is hard to beat and are very comfy....
