How much would we realistically be able to fit in it? We are a family of 5 (3 kids but not little ones) and have a Vango Tigris 800, kitchen tent etc. We seem to take lots of stuff with us but it's all basic stuff that we use. thanks (Haven't got room to store the next size up which looks massive!)
I don't wish to bore you with maths but the volume of an erde102 is 288 liters that is if you pack it flat which you probably wouldn't.288 liters is about the same as the boot in a small car.You can store all models stood on end.
in our 102 we have tent (gelert quebec 8+4) big bag. tent poles, kyham sun porch and pole in medium bag, 4 chairs, 4 sleeping bags, electric hook up, spare tyre, 2 tables, large eco-matting groundsheet, camp kitchen with hard top, 4 air beds, water bottle. then we strap windbreak on top. im sure there is something else we put in, but my minds gone blank.

That sounds quite a lot! Do you have a flat cover on that or the higher cover (30cm)?
we have the flat cover and no adaptions to the trailer. my OH is fantastic at packing it. the tent goes on its end rather than long ways. it took a long time to figure how to pack it evenly but he's had plenty of practice now and has it down to a tee. the flat tables and hard top lay on top of everything else.we use a spider web net to hold things still, then the flat cover. and use 2 ratchet straps to hold everything down. never had any problems with it and often forget its on the back.
We're a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 children under 7) and recently got the 122. Thought about the 102 but took our tent along to Halfords to see what it looked like in the trailer...decided the 122 was the way to go as it would also let us get decent table & chairs, etc.
It's smaller than you think! Silverfox72's maths is quite right.
It's been said so many times before on here, but you will grow into any space you have - either with lazy packing or just more stuff!
My advice - go for as big a trailer as you can afford - we have the 142 with 30cm extension and get all our stuff in it. I have followed a few 102s and believe me they bounce along even flat motorways as they just aren't very heavy, even when full.
We have bought the erde 122 last year. Then we'v added erde roof bars and a large top box. In our trailer we fit everything we need. We have a wolf lake 7 tent, 4 chairs, 2 tables, kitchen unit, 2 wind breaks all the usual stuff that comes with camping (lights, cutlery, kettle pots n pans etc) 3 airbeds, 2 scooters for the boys.....and plenty more on top! We have loads of room, so the only thing left to go in the boot of our car, is the sleeping bags, clothes and food. I'm not keen on hte thought of these going in the trailer (although i know they will fit in ) because i don't want to be sleeping in a damp sleeping bag, if the weather decides to turn wet! Oh yes, and we have the flat cover to go on top of the trailer, so everythings covered!
My advice would be, to measure the larger items before you decide on which trailer to puchase, as this is what we did, and the 122 isn't that much more expensive then the 102. Don't forget, you alays have the option of adding-on top boxes etc. We looked at getting the hard top, but decided to go down the root or the top box. This as because you would have everythign piled up on top of everything with the hard top. We put all the smaller items in the top box on th trailer and all the larger items (tent, chairs, tables etc) in the trailer its self.
ooooh, all this talk about tents is getting me in the mood to go!! Hope our solution helps with your dilema!!!
Happy camping!!!
------------- love shopping, love a bargain even more!
Thanks for the replies. I think we have decided that the 122 will be sufficient (already have a roof box & large Zafira boot), Just need to find one cheap enough now!
